Our apartment was 3 blocks from one of the most developed parts of the island. We went for a walk. Our destination was the sunset beach, called Bulabog beach, and it was the afternoon. We walked across the main road and found our way through a maze of pedestrians and  walkways in the area known as D Mall. We passed several enticing restaurants and markets but I had to resist temptation. We were heading for the million dollar sunset. The shops opened up onto the white sand beach. Tired palm trees shaded a mob of swim suit clad couples and families. Children frolicked in the gentle surf but most people were getting comfortable to watch the sun sink into the sea. Jill and I were on cloud-nine. This place was warm, sunny, and relaxing. It was exactly what we were looking for. We sat down people watched and read our books. Reading was one of the things I meant to get done on our trip, I was reading The Goldfinch, by Donna Tartt. It was about a kid whose life is turned upside down and his relationship with a painting. I was reading relatively a lot of books at this time. In the months to come I would read a lot more.

As the sun began its final show of the day, we joined the crowd snapping pictures and selfies. We had a delicious dinner in the fading light. Then we struck out for the supermarket to find our breakfast items. We were quite excited to eat oatmeal and coffee each morning. We found what we needed at the Crafts supermarket across from the suspicious pond. We made our way back to the apartment with our goods. The night was just beginning on the island. The restaurants and bars were lit up and packed. Thankfully, we would be sleeping far enough from the thumping nightclubs on the beaches. The next day, January 19, 2020,  Jill made a discovery outside our door. She found a pile of kittens sleeping on the stairs. We ate our breakfast while enticing them with strings and toys. The mother cat came around and trundled them off to some other spot but we were going to have kitten encounters from now on.
